About

How I Got Started

Hi everyone! My name is Mio Lainchbury and I am a Registered Dietitian working in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. I belong to the regulatory body College of Dietitian's of British Columbia (CDBC).

I graduated from the University of British Columbia in 2020 and started working at BC Cancer, our local cancer agency since then in as the head and neck team dietitian. BC Cancer is part of the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA). My role includes providing nutrition assessments and evidence based nutrition interventions to prevent malnutrition in cancer patients. I have found my strengths in team based care, empathy, and communication skills have allowed me to connect with deeply patients. It has been a very fulfilling career thus far.

I have also worked for Diabetes Canada as their dietitian for summer camps, as well as in private practice. I am pretty early on in my career, but I am hoping to expand my learning and skillset to branch into further leadership roles in the future. I hope to stay with BC Cancer and help support the growth and strength of cancer care in BC, as there are is a need for expanded cancer treatment centre's in rural areas such as Kamloops and Nanaimo, BC. My passion is clinical nutrition and nutrition education. I have an interest in connecting with individuals to make nutrition goals simple and achievable for them in a supportive manner using evidence based nutrition information.

This e-portfolio will allow me to share my learnings from the next journey in my career- pursuing a Masters in Health Studies at Athabasca University. Thanks for joining along!
